I agree with what you say about doing some research before purchasing your first cowhide. I had wanted a hide for years! I knew nothing about them. Was told to go with Brazilian. I bought what I would say was a mid-priced rug ($220) and I wasn’t overly impressed but I didn’t know any difference really. A year later I did some research on them and decided to go with a hand-picked hide so I knew exactly what look I was getting (online) but was still unsure of the quality. At that point I figured all Brazilian hides were the same. Not true! I paid almost $800 for the the color/pattern I wanted but the rug is totally different from my first one. It is absolutely stunning! You can see that the tannery that did this Brazilian compared to the tannery that did my first Brazilian was a much higher-end manufacturer. I figured that they all had a smell but this one had zero smell, laid flat after a couple of days. No thinning of hide, every part of it was an even thickness. It is a stunning piece. I will continue to purchase from the same company because now that I know the difference in quality of hides, I’m not taking a chance on anything else!
