Experience the exquisite craftsmanship and vibrant beauty of the Traditional Handmade Hopi Pot, a true masterpiece by renowned Hopi master potter White Swann. This stunning piece features intricate traditional patterns, pristine hand-painting, and a deep red interior rim, making it a must-have for any art lover.
The shape is a standard for the Hopi potter. We love the blush she achieved on this piece.
White Swann digs her clay and processes it in the traditional way. She hand coils her pottery and fires it outdoors with sheep dung. White Swann uses yucca leaves to make her paint brushes. The maroon coloration is achieved with the use of iron oxide. the yellow clay provides the orange finish. Like all the Hopi potters, she is always learning and is now refining her "blush" that is achieved when firing the pots.
The Hopi have always been outstanding weavers and artisans. They cultivated cotton to make cloth, which they traded with other Indian peoples as far south as Northern Mexico. The Hopi were experts at dyeing and embroidery. They have been refining the art of pottery-making for nearly a thousand years.
