Handmade Hopi Katsinam Water Pot

SKU: KH4556

This beautifully-crafted pot was handmade and handpainted by the talented Hopi potter Gloria Mahle. Its shape suggests that it was used to store water, while its design features five distinct Hopi Katsinam, including Grandmother, Butterfly Maiden, Qoqooqlo, Water Maiden, and Mustard Green.

The Hopi have always been outstanding weavers and artisans. They cultivated cotton to make cloth, which they traded with other Indian peoples as far south as Northern Mexico. The Hopi were experts at dyeing and embroidery. They have been refining the art of pottery-making for nearly a thousand years.
