Full-Grain Aniline Leather
The featured leather begins with full-grain aniline hides sourced through historic Italian tanneries using select English hides. The leather undergoes a traditional hot-wax treatment and is rested overnight in wooden drums to enhance its softness, depth, and supple character.
The leather arrives in North Carolina in its original crust form, where skilled artisans apply a hand-rubbed, multistep patina using authentic Italian waxes and pigments. This time-intensive finishing process creates the rich character and softly aged appearance of a treasured leather chair discovered in a French estate or Parisian market—without the wear associated with an antique.
Subtle variations in color, grain, texture, and patina are natural characteristics of genuine leather. These variations are not defects; they ensure that every finished chair has its own individual beauty and character.
Heirloom-Quality Hardwood Frame
The frame blends traditional furniture-making techniques with precision manufacturing. Each component is cut from kiln-dried lumber and assembled by hand for exceptional strength and stability.
Every joint is reinforced with double dowels, while large corner blocks are carefully positioned at critical stress points and secured with both glue and screws. This substantial construction creates a dependable frame designed to withstand years of regular use.
Supportive Spring-Fortrel Seat Cushion
The seat cushion is constructed with Marshall springs encased in 1.8-density foam. It is then wrapped in two-ounce Fortrel “7” fiber and enclosed in a sewn ticking. This layered construction provides resilient support, comfortable cushioning, and lasting shape retention.
